On Snapchat, a number emoji indicates the number of days you and a friend have consecutively Snapchatted each other. Start a streak by snapping at each other daily.
Stop snapping, and the streak is over. There are also additional emojis to add context to your snaps and let your friends know that you are on a streak, or that it’s been 100 days since you’ve started snapping regularly.
The emojis next to users’ names change frequently as Snapstreaks are updated, but what do these emojis mean? What was once a confusing series of symbols is now much easier to understand with the addition of an emoji guide and new color indicators for streaks.
How To Change Your Snapchat Streak Emoji
Streaks are one of the most popular features on Snapchat, and they’re pretty easy to manage. To keep your streak running, all you have to do is send a snap to your friend at least once every 24 hours. But also, you can’t just send them any old snap. It has to be a picture or video, not a chat message or sticker.
Once you’ve kept up your streak for three days, a little fire icon will appear next to your friend’s name on your friends list.
This indicates that you have an active streak with that person. Each day that the streak continues will add an extra number to the emoji; this indicates how many days you’ve been on a streak. For example, after five days, the fire icon will be accompanied by a number 5.
It’s worth noting that streaks can’t last forever; Snapchat caps streaks at 1,000 days.
Steps To Change Your Snapchat Streak Emoji:
The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the latest version of the app installed. Head on over to the App Store or Google Play store and update Snapchat if you haven’t already.
If you’re using an Android, press and hold on to the chat with someone you’ve been talking to for at least three days — aka someone with whom you have a Snapstreak. Once you’ve pressed and held, a little emoji will pop up. You can now swipe left or right to choose an emoji that suits your fancy. Once you’ve chosen an emoji, press “save.”
If you’re using an iOS device, press and hold on to the same chat as described above. After pressing and holding, a little emoji will pop up — but this time on the left side of the screen instead of the right where your finger is. Swipe up on that tiny icon to find all sorts of emojis to choose from.
If you want to get rid of the emoji altogether, simply long-press the message thread once more and select “no emoji.” The only problem with this method is that it replaces your custom-made smiley face with one of Snapchat’s generic ones.
