HEVC or H.265 for Windows 10 is the video compressing standard developed for high coding efficiency, thus lowering the bit rate as much as possible and maintaining the quality of the video at the same time.
These codecs help you watch videos that are in HEVC format but in the latest versions of Windows 10, these are not pre-installed, thus Movie and TV App, Netflix App, etc might face the issue while playing the videos, for example, audio is playing but showing the black screen or showing errors like “the required codec is missing”.
HEVC Codec For Windows Media Player
You must first decode the HEVC / H.265 to play HEVC / H.265 videos. You can use a third-party tool that makes it easier to use hardware or software decoding.
Older versions of Windows 10 had added support for HEVC codecs packs but now they don’t come pre-installed with newer ones, especially after Windows 10 v1709 update. However, you can purchase it for $0.99 from Microsoft Store.
Although, there’s still a way you can get it without any cost as there are two HEVC codec packages instead of one. “HEVC Video Extension from Device Manufacturer” is another codec pack you can get from the Store.
Here’s how to install it:-
2. Now, tap on the “Get” button.
3. Click “Open”.
4. Click “Install”.
The minimum device required to use this codec is “Windows 10 version 16299.0 or higher” with “ARM, x64, x86” Architecture support.
